Artist Tea Towel Company commissions contemporary artists to produce artworks for tea towels. The inaugural collection features six designs by artists from across the UK and Ireland. ATTC is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) and profits are reinvested in new commissions and occasional public events. The company’s aim is to introduce new collections by different artists each year.

Functioning as both a rectangular canvas and a cloth for drying dishes, the tea towels are affordable and useful artworks. They are approximately 46 x 71 cm, digitally printed on 100% cotton and made in the UK.

Available tea towels:
Sean Lynch, Favorite Chicken and Ribs logo featuring ‘Chuckie’, designed by an unknown artist in Southend in 1986. Part of Sean Lynch’s A blow by blow account of stone carving in Oxford, 2014, 2016
Noel Clueit, typical, checkered, most likely blue., 2016
Cube Cola, Still life, 2017
Milly Thompson, Hunter watching the beach, 2016
Lucy Stein, She sells shellfish, 2017
Simon Bayliss, Paradise Haunts (Hestercombe), 2015 – 16

Noel Clueit’s artwork uses a stock photograph of a tea towel from a Google image search. It depicts an archetypal woven design, therefore contrasting with the digital printing technique employed by Artist Tea Towel Company. The design conveys the journey of a tea towel becoming an image, then returning as a tea towel transformed through technology and means of production. The concept is further complicated by the Dreamstime company watermark, used to deter people from using or printing its images without purchase, which in this case becomes an aesthetic embellishment.
